The author's heart is in the right place, but this volume attempts to cover too much territory. Topics are covered so briefly that the book really only serves as a launching point for further reading; nothing is covered in enough depth to really be helpful. A good example is the book's coverage of avoiding dangerous chemicals in the upkeep of the family swimming pool. The topic is covered in a mere two-page spread, . Nearly all of the text simply recount how dangerous traditional chemical regimens are. Then there's a table which summarizes "green" alternatives, and a nice photo with a caption advising people how much salt is as an alternative. And that's it.

The flavor is rather like a volume of brief, nicely illustrated magazine articles of no particular depth. If the reader seeks an actual manual on altering their homes to "earth-friendly" places, look elsewhere. ( )
