On page 85 of this work, in a chapter titled 'Amusements', there is a brief description of a form of football played by Aboriginal people in the western districts of Victoria. This is an important contemporary record of the fact that the Indigenous people of Australia played a form of football. It is one of the significant pieces of evidence cited by proponents of the view that indigenous forms of football had an influence upon the origin and development of Australian Rules football.
