The boys are asked to do what is alien to them - hunt and kill magnificient wild animals, in this case Lions who have become man eaters. They manage to not be very good and get four sets of enemies almost for no reason. The chief is one - he is a racist and wont allow them aby black helpers, he hopes they fail and get killed in the process. The boys decide a teathered balloon would help so they can look out over a wide area. The inevitable happens and the balloon comes loose causing a ludicrous journey across adrica when the survive crashing. Getting back and seemingly making a miraculous recovery Roger, a 14yo boy, captures the man eating male lion single handedly and unarmed. 5 left in the series now, i have fond memories of the next Gorilla Adventure, hope it is as good as i remember. This is Very Silly, and very much of its time, and definitely Problematic in places, in exactly the way you would expect a Boys Own Adventure written in the 60s to be about two white boys helping a black tribe kill a lion. But if you want a book where two young boys accidently fly over Kilimanjaro in a hot airballoon, this is probably the best one you'll find! Belongs to Series
The human bait was the boys themselves . . . Hal and Roger Hunt have been sent on a terrifying mission - they must save the population of Mtito Andei from a man-eating lion. But the 'King of the Beasts' isn't the only thing trying to kill the boys . . . Have the brothers bitten off more than they can chew this time ? No library descriptions found. |
