An important component in Dominique Perrault's architecture is the deliberate use of materials. Textures, colors, reflections and tactile qualities impart to the purity, even austerity of his simple monumental buildings, a special note of distinction. This volume documents for the first time his collaboration with Gaelle Lauriot-Prevost in furniture and lamp design as well as wall hangings – the area where Perrault's sense of materials is most tangible. The complete interior design for the Bibliotheque nationale de France – the woven, metal wall hangings, the various book shelves, reading tables, chairs, reception areas, research alcoves, etc. as well as lamps – is the focus of this book. Other design products and the first application of woven metal hangings in the departmental archives in Laval (1992) are also shown. Finally, the volume provides insight into the creative design process through sketches, preliminary studies, photographs documenting various production phases and the actual manufacturing process.… (mere)
