Nora Bannister is a bestselling mystery novelist who buys run-down houses in LA. While her business partners turn the house into a showpiece, Nora makes it the scene of a grisly murder in her House To Die For series. As soon as the new book goes on sale, so does the house — and the bidding frenzy begins.  It seems a lot of people are willing to pay a lot of money to live in a real house where a fictional character has died a violent death. Just before Nora’s latest book hits the market, one of her house-flipping partners is murdered.  LAPD Detectives Mike Lomax and Terry Biggs are assigned the case, but this one is a hot potato – the dead woman is also the wife of one of their fellow cops. As Mike and Terry dig into the victim’s private life, more bodies turn up . . .  Is someone stalking the house flippers or is the murderer after cops’ wives?  Either way, Mike and Terry have to track down the killer before he murders his next logical target — Marilyn Biggs, Terry’s wife.… (mere)

I enjoy the Lomax-Biggs duo. The plot is a bit of a stretch, but this is just "light reading" and, while it isn't likely to win any awards for great writing, the dialog is believable and often witty. There are several twists and turns that will keep you guessing, but the story moves right along. This is on a par with #2 in the series (Bloodthirsty) and better than the first (Rabbit Factory.) I look forward listening to the fourth.

Tom Stechschulte does a terrific job giving voice to the many, varied characters, making it much more fun to listen to than to read. ( )

Great entry in the Lomax & Biggs series. Flipping Out begins with the murder of a fellow cop's wife. Lomax & Biggs are assigned the case, and instructed to solve the murder quickly. With Terry (of course) wisecracking throughout, they eventually narrow the motive to a popular crime fiction author and a group of real estate investors. The group purchases and renovates homes and then sells them, with the unique twist that author Nora Bannister writes a fiction book about a murder committed in the house. The investors include Nora's daughter and several cop's wives, including Terry's wife Marilyn. Can he and Mike solve the case before the murderer comes after his own wife? This was a very entertaining and quick read. I would recommend starting with the Karp's first book, "The Rabbit Factory". ( )

Sometimes I just want to laugh while I read about murder and mayhem, and when I do, I know that all I have to do is pick up one of Marshall Karp's Lomax and Biggs mysteries. The mystery is a genuine headscratcher, but most of the fun lies not in deducing the killer's identity, but in enjoying Karp's humor as he has a go at bestselling authors, the real estate business, interfering fathers, and life in Los Angeles. By targeting Terry Biggs' wife, Karp ratchets up the tension because, by extension, readers will wonder if that puts Mike Lomax's girlfriend in danger, too. These two homicide detectives certainly know how to make me laugh, so it's no secret that I don't want anything happening to their womenfolk.

If you're in the mood for a belly laugh or two (or three or...) while you're trying to identify a killer, you can't go wrong by picking up a Lomax and Biggs mystery. Marshall Karp is a master at creating fast-paced, suspenseful mysteries that will have you laughing so hard that the people around you will annoy the stuffing out of you by constantly interrupting: "What's so funny? Hey... read it to me. I want to know why you're laughing so much!" ( )

Lomax and Biggs, LA police detectives always seem to get great cases. And this time is no exception. It begins with the death of one their own. Wives of local police officers are being murdered and they need to figure out who is doing it before their wives/girlfriends are next.
This another great story by Karp, number three in the series. One of my favorite humor mystery writers. The story is always just right, funny, not too heavy, good characters and plot and not too long. He gets the formula right every time. Always a great choice and can't wait for the next outing. ( )

The book started out slow and i never really enjoyed the cute humor of the 2 main characters, but the story proved to be a surprise, with an ending I did not see coming. ( )
