My personal reaction to this book was positive. I thought the author did a good job of covering all the aspects of Assateague, including the seasons, the landscape, and the variety of different animals on the land. The main focus was on the wild ponies and describing the their life cycle. The author use of photography throughout the book helped to reiterate the writing. Overall I thought that the author was able to write such a vivid book of Assateague because the information was direct knowledge and experience. I thought the most interesting part of the book was how the ponies from Chincoteague are rounded up and brought inland to be auctioned off as a fundraiser. Although this seems harsh its a way to keep the population lower and more healthy.

The main point of this book is to inform readers about Assateague island and the importance of all the creatures that exist on the island. It is a knowledge filled book with great descriptions and images to help readers get a better understanding of the ecosystem at Assateague Island.

I read this when I was a small child. All of the series of books by this author were beautiful. ( )
