These handsome books combine brilliant color illustrations and concise text in an attractive magazine-style format. They recount the achievements and adventures of explorers, and feature between 70 and 110 full-color illustrations in each book. Sir Francis Drake lived in the age of Queen Elizabeth I, and was the first of Britain's great sea explorers. His achievements around the globe marked the beginning of British dominance as a world empire. Illustrations in this book include that of a three-masted, square-rigged ship of a design similar to Drake's historic Golden Hind, maps showing the route of his circumnavigation of the earth, and the depictions of his battles with enemy Spanish forces.… (mere)
