Read me a story is about Yoko a small cat who goes to school every day. She is really good at writing letters, counting numbers, drawing, nature, and music. She knows her shapes and colors. But she cannot seem to read. The teacher would ask Yoko the word “Cat” and Yoko would reply saying “Dog.” Yoko would always say a different word. She didn’t want anyone to know that she could read because she was afraid that her mom would stop reading her bedtime stories. The illustrations are very simple, and shown in a classroom setting. This would be a good book for teachers to read in the classroom. It is a good lesson for students because it gives the message that if you know how to do something, show it and succeed in it rather than hide it. If you are afraid that something will be taken away from you because you are good at something, it won’t. ( )

This book is about Yoko pretending that she couldn't read. She kept that a secret because she was afraid that her mother would stop reading to her if she knew how to herself. ( )

This book is about a little girl name Yoko that is very smart. Yoko doesn’t want anyone to know how smart she is, she acts as if she can’t read. Her teacher would ask her what different words are and she would say the wrong word. Her teacher had a conference with her mother to let her know what has been going on with Yoko. One day her brother Timothy whispered to her and told her he knew that she had written a letter to the Thunderchip Cornflakes Company. Yoko explained to him that she can write just fine, but she can’t read well. The company sent a letter to Yoko’s teacher Mrs. Jenkins, saying that Yoko had written a letter, and they would give all of the student’s discounts on their rings. When Mrs. Jenkins read the letter, she called Yoko’s mother to tell her what happened. They both didn’t understand how she could write, but couldn’t read. That night, her mother was tucking her in for bed and asked if she had a secret to tell her. Yoko finally confessed that she was pretending not to know how to read because she didn’t want her mother to stop reading her stories at night. Her mother explained that she won’t stop reading her books, just because she can read, but she would like if she can read a book to her once in a while. ( )
