S. missionary organization, Gospel for Asia, that is dedicated to the advancement of overseas missionary work being accomplished by indigenous missionaries. He deplores the great waste of money being spent on training and maintaining traditional white missionaries in countries where they live outside of the culture and in a life-style that is so different from the people they are trying to reach. "Why wear imported clothes and shoes, use imported appliances and own other luxury goods that are not indigenous to the culture? Why must missionary homes be air-conditioned or heated when those of the average natives are not," asks Yohannan. He feels the missionary sending agencies are operating with outmoded bylaws that keep them and their money locked in the Colonial system of mission work and does not open itself to the tremendous advances being made on the fields of Asia and Africa through the work of native missionaries. Yohannan suggests that there is a certain arrogance in some of the sending agencies that causes them to believe that the Great Commission can only be carried out under the leadership and with the skills of the Westerners themselves and cannot be entrusted to the native missionaries.
