This book is about two friends who go with a small alien, Aric, to take back the XCT-1000 from the Galaxians and take it back to the rightful owners. After being captured the two boys broke out of prison using celery sticks and were able to get the XCT-1000 from the Galaxions. ( )

Richard and Henry are friends who are upset that all their friends have gone somewhere cool for Easter break except them. They are hanging out at the house and looking for something to eat. They put a bag of microwaveable popcorn into the microwave, and it explodes, revealing a tiny alien creature who is looking for the secret ingredient that makes desserts taste good.

I wish I would have known about this book as a child! It's so appealling to the imagination. It is funny and has a good message about how all foods have a place - vegetables and desserts alike. The illustrations may have been better in color, though.

This would be a good book to read before doing a unit on the food groups and the importance of a balanced diet. A second extension could be to do an acrostic poem on your favorite dessert. ( )
