There are a lot of great reviews on this that others have added so I won't rehash them. I will say though that someone mentioned that they felt hit over the head by the jounalism aspect and I didn't feel that at all. I felt that the descriptions of her work as a journalist were understated if anything. I loved reading about how reporters go about doing the minutia of their jobs, the behind the scenes work. I was interested in the descriptions of Native American culture. Many books either gloss over this or romanticize it and I felt it was dealt with well here. The characters were well drawn and believable and the action well written. I did guess the bad guy early on but hey it's mostly a romance and that part was very well done. I really enjoyed how raw and earthy the hero talked, both in his mind and outloud. It was refreshing to read a male hero character who wasn't white washed into a fantasy guy. But he really came through in the end (if you've read it, you know what I mean) The most telling and touching part of his action was that it was so premeditated, not spur of the moment at all. He really had to make a conscious decision which made it much more visceral. Good stuff. Listened to audio narrated by Kaleo Griffith. This book just did not work for me. I did not like how Katherine's Native American upbringing was presented, nor her as a reporter. Katherine comes across as a naïve, and superstitious. She's suppose to be an investigative reporter but when she receives threatening calls she doesn't record them (like every reporter in the previous books have done?). She often comes across as a young adult, with a lot of unrealistic idealism you don't expect from a reporter or a Native American that was raised on the Reservation. Gabe isn't very likable most of the time either. He's a man whore, talks about getting tail and a woman's muff, etc. While he has acts of heroism and I'm sorry he was hurt and betrayed it doesn't excuse his poor treatment of women as his sexual release toys. Only at the very end does any redeeming qualities come out and try to turn all that is negative about him around, but it is too little too late for me and a sorry excuse for his behavior. Honestly I was so caught up with the issues I had with the main characters that it completely pulls away from the story, the Native American history and the problems they face. I did like learning about the Native American beliefs and practices and some of their issues.
