Doonesbury's dry political humor is somewhat an acquired taste, one that I often struggle to acquire myself. However, fans of Hunter S. Thompson are more than aware of his being the inspiration behind his thinly-disguised (if at all) appearance in Doonesbury as Uncle Duke. This is a collection of some of the comic strips featuring this character, and all I can really say about it is that if you like Hunter S, Thompson, you'll probably enjoy some of the strips in this collection. Introduces Trip Tripler as Sal's (Mike's brother) first college roommate. Mike and J.J. find a dilapidated apartment with a dope den in the same building. Zonker wins a $23 million lottery. The gang gets together at Walden Commune to say goodbye to it as Mike and J.J. depart. J.J. gets a gig doing the restrooms at a club opening, and Trip Tripler joins Navy ROTC. Duke is discovered apparently dead, but it is found that he has been changed into a zombie and spirited away. Rev. Scot Sloan takes over Walden. ( )
