Where Does the Garbage Go is an educational book that teaches children where the garbage goes after we throw it into our trashcan. The book teaches about the concepts of landfills and recycling as well as waste management. This book is an easy read for students who are getting introduced to reading books with more sentences on the page. This book is less simple than a picture book but has pictures as visual aides for readers. I like this book because it teaches a concept that many students may have wondered while throwing away their trash. I would suggest it for grades 2-4, because students may be reading books with more words on the pages at this age. ( )

I used this book to discuss characteristic events of a science text with my student. This book is good especially for ELL students because it has very good pictures. The book includes picture charts that show what happens to paper, plastic, and metal in a recycling factory. Each step in the process is accompanied by a caption. If the students do not know what the captions say they can use the pictures to put in their own words that make sense. This book allows students to comprehend science texts without reading syntactically complex words. This book is also very relate-able for the kids because they all have seen trash and recycling bins and have seen the trash trucks come down the street, so now they get to learn where it goes. I will also be using this book for my text set because it discusses the impacts of trash on the environment and why recycling is important in keeping our Earth clean.

While this is a short book, it discusses the concept of recycling, and overall just what happens to the trash once the garbage truck comes to pick it up. I would love to use this book in my classroom to introduce the students to recycling and being mindful of their waste. ( )
