Some things won't stay buried . . . at grave's end It should be the best time of half-vampire Cat Crawfield's life. With her undead lover Bones at her side, she's successfully protected mortals from the rogue undead. But though Cat's worn disguise after disguise to keep her true identity a secret from the brazen bloodsuckers, her cover's finally been blown, placing her in terrible danger. Although I jumped into this series with this book (I believe it's the third) I quite enjoyed it and had no trouble getting up to speed with the story or characters. It offers a twist on the usual vampire/urban fantasy tales in that the main character is a half-vampire, which makes her quite interesting.

The pace is quick and the writing is very good for the most part. The audiobook is excellently narrated by Tavia Gilbert, who does a great job with voices and inflections for the various characters.

I got a little weary of the sex around the middle of the book--not that it's badly-written, just that there was too much of it for my personal taste, and in my opinion, it slowed the story down.

I do know some friends who would probably love this series, so I'll be recommending it to them, and I may pick up more myself in the future. ( )

I wasn't as in to this book as the first two. Reading it the action felt stilted, and I couldn't connect with Cat as well as I had in the first two books. I'm not sure if this was due to the writing, due to my mental state, or due to the fact I read Halfway to the Grave and One Foot in the Grave within 2 weeks of picking up this one.

Also, I didn't buy it when Bones had supposedly died. I couldn't sympathize with Cat's grief because I knew it was misplaced. Overall, I didn't connect as well with the characters or the relationships in this one. ( )

I don't know if it's just this book or if I didn't notice before, but I found the language in this one to be a bit corny at times. Kind of like American crime dramas. Aside from that, I had another problem. This book felt like plot point after plot point after plot point (e.g., Cat gets hurt and Bones gives blood, ad infinitum), loosely threaded together by mildly character-developing conversation. And I was so annoyed at Tate and how Cat just continues to put up with his BS. Also annoyed at her mom, yet again.

I liked Ian's character, as well as the introduction of Vlad. Overall, I think this is the weakest installment in the series so far. The structure of the vampire world remains compelling, but this one was a disappointment. ( )

These books just keep getting better. I am loving Cat and Bones. There was one particular morning when I was listening to this book on my way to work and I started bawling and cried the remaining 30 minute drive to work. By the time I got to the office, my eyes were red and my makeup was gone. But isn't it a sign of a good book when it moves you to tears? I think I've mentioned before that I love everything about Tavia Gilbert's narration except for her voice for Bones. It's a little too feminine for me but after three books it's kind of grown on me.
