After worrying that the new kid in school will be as bad as the rumors say he is, Hubie finds out that Butch Pounder isn't at all what everyone expected.

There are multiple reasons I liked this book. I liked how the illustrations of the book were very different compared to other children's books. The illustrations were colorful, but each page was not filled fully with illustration of the story. It was just a big square in the page with the illustrations and underneath was only a sentence of the story. It was similar to reading a comic book. I also liked how the characters were believable because you have a student who is attending his school and he hears these rumors about the new kid, but he hears rumors that he is a bully. So in real life there are many students who hear these rumors and have these thoughts going through their head. This is why I would definitely read this in my class as a read a loud because there are many activities you can do with the students based off this book. It has bullying, friendship, predictions, imagination, etc. Also, mainly a good story to show kids that bullying is not good and that everyone should be friends no matter where they come from or how they look, etc. Overall, this is a great book and would recommend it to many students and teachers. Any story from the black lagoon series should automatically be used in a classroom around the beginning of the year. From principles, to janitors they make every school potion a little less scary for children. In this particular book a new student is being introduced to the classroom and rumor has it that he was kicked out of his old school. This automatically gets readers interested in what amazing illustration will Jared Lee give us next? He dose not disappoint with a giant pink monster that towers over the res of the students. But with every book in this series it has a happy ending for all. This book would be a great lesson on not just bullying, but about spreading rumors, and the harm that It can do especially to new students. ( )
