The heroine feels like she's losing her mind as she's tormented by hallucinations and dream like attacks. She seeks out the hero, a man well versed in dream walking but they're meeting was less than smooth as he thinks she's a stripper sent to him for his birthday. Despite this embarrassing misunderstanding, when her neighbor goes missing, she instantly calls him for help. The hero and heroine have been meeting in their dreams but never knowing who the other person was but the hero knows the mystery woman to be his spiritual mate. Despite the fact that he's a witch and a pretty powerful dream walker he was pretty normal. The same vibe could be said about the whole book. It was typical romance with spurts of paranormal action. Most of the book is spent with the hero and heroine getting to know each other by going out to diner and such and I did love their chemistry and ease with one another. But then the heroine would suddenly be kidnapped or attacked and the hero would have to save her. It didn't really flow between the romance and then the action segments. That being said I really love the hero. He wasn't a macho man or possessive or overtly manly but he had presence and he was charming without being a rake. He did everything in his power to help the heroine and didn't hesitate to dream walk for her despite his aversion to the talent. And I really liked the heroine because she held herself together so well in the face of everything going on. She cried in secret when the hero hurt her feels but she was strong enough to accept his help for the sake of her friend. She fought tooth and nail for her life in every dangerous situation and was never willing to give up, something I admired. I guess in this world paranormal creatures are out in the open as everyone seemed to know she was a woodland nymph but her nature never really played a large rule in the scheme of things. I really liked this book and I can say I enjoyed it most out of the series. ( )

In the seventh book of the Immortals series, Robin T. Popp brings us the story of Mai and Nick, neither of whom is actually immortal. They are magical creatures, though. Mai is a wood nymph, which I gather means she can teleport and is extremely horny. Nick is a Spirit Walker who can travel through the spiritual realms of dreams, wishes, etc. He can also morph into any living thing bigger than a hawk. Mai is also a reporter working on exposing a corrupt politician who is not pleased about her digging into his campaign. Also, Mai's new apartment building boasts a creepy maintenance guy who happens to have a genie under his control (loosely, which is unfortunate for all of them. This is not a nice Robin-Williams-type genie.)
This is my so-far favorite of the immortals series. Mai and Nick are quite amusing characters with crackling chemistry. I enjoy the idea of a spirit mate, as well. Will, the super, is so creepy he's comical, and it's nice to get visits from Lexi and Darius from an earlier volume of this series.
Highly recommended. Would work almost as well as a standalone, so if you haven't read the whole series, don't worry, you won't be lost. ( )

I enjoyed this book just like I have all the others in this series. ( )

“Immortals: The Haunting” by Robin T. Popp is book number six in the ‘Immortals’ series. I’ve read ‘em all and there’s only one book left to come which will be a collection of three short stories; one by each author who contributed to the series. Even though this book is not about one of the main immortal characters from the story (though we do get an appearance by one), it’s still a very good read—especially for paranormal fans.

Mai is a wood nymph who joined in the great battle against an ancient demon who tried to destroy our world. Her magic has been unreliable since the battle and she is suffering from symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder to boot--nightmares, hallucinations, and voices. Heck, her last hallucination almost killed her! If it hadn’t been for a shadowy savior who appeared to save her, she’s would have been toast. Now her dreams are filled with her dream man who makes exquisite love to her…but she keeps waking up before the big finish, darn it. Good thing she just met a real man who makes her heart race and seems to like what he sees too. Who needs a dream guy?

Nick is a dreamwalker. He’s also a chameleon, able to assume to visage of whatever he chooses. Both of these abilities are his heritage and his duty. His ‘day job’ is working as a bodyguard and survival trainer. He’s happy with his life the way it is, good money and plenty of women. The absolute LAST thing he’s looking for is his ‘spirit match’. He’s interested in Mai…very interested. Then strange things begin to happen around Mai and soon Nick realizes the woman from his dreams is his match. How can he continue a relationship with Mai now that he knows his perfect other is real?

Very absorbing and very hot! These two will have you tingling at the same time you’re either looking over your shoulder or praying for really, really sweet dreams! They are both strong characters who aren’t used to needing, or asking for, help and it takes them a while to understand that assistance doesn’t mean weakness. Popp’s paranormal world is a cool mixture of ancient and American Indian lore set in New York. Her supporting characters introduce a mystery and a tragedy which (I’m pretty sure) will be continued in either a short story or an offshoot novel. The plot contained quite a few surprises for me and even some humor to round out my favorite things.

For those who have been following this series, “Immortals: The Haunting” is a not-to-miss continuation. For fans of Robin T. Popp, this is an excellent addition to her works. For paranormal fans, it’s just a darn good read. And take my advice…you may want to cover up your mirrors before you start the book! (Heh, heh) ( )
