As a read aloud but always felt it was a bit long.
Had the matching Beanie Baby also.
Had Verdi also and we liked it, but Stellaluna more so. ( )

This is a story of a little fruit bat named Stellaluna. This little one gets separated from her mother and is found and taken care of by a mama bird. The mama bird insists that Stellaluna do everything the way ordinary birds do, which is totally different than the way bats do things. When Stellaluna can finally fly, and actually ends up finding her mother, she is told that what she feels is the right way to do things are her natural instincts, and that she should follow them. She is very relieved to be able to do all the things bats naturally do once again.

Stellaluna is the story of a lost bat who finally finds her way home to her family and friends. This book could be used in the classroom to tie into science and teach students about bats and how they use echolocation. ( )

After a traumatic experience Stellaluna needs a family, someone to take care of her. A family of birds do just that even though they are similar, there are many differences between bats and birds. As the birds teach Stellaluna about being a bird, Stellaluna teaches them about being a bat. While showing her bird family the bat life, she ends up finding her own bat family. ( )

Stellaluna is a baby fruit bat who gets seperated from her mother and gets adopted by a family of birds. Throughtout this cute and entertaining realistic fiction children can see the similarties and differences between birds and bats. This childhood classic also teaches kids how to overlook others differences and that it's okay to be different. ( )
