This one was excellent, a complex mystery about a tax law case involving a large fortune. It was set up in a way to protect beneficiaries from officialdom, except that the beneficiary's name has been lost. Filled with fabulous characters and the interesting setting of the Channel Islands, Monaco and the Caymans this was a lot of fun. My favourite character is Cantrip, a barrister who is a dedicated supporter of technology and communicates hilariously by the (then) current state-of-the-art telex machine. Aided as usual by Oxford scholar Professor Hilary Tamar, whose gender is Caudwell's secondary mystery. Young barrister Michael Cantrip has skipped off to the Channel Island to take on a tax-law case that's worth a fortune -if Cantrip's tax-planning cronies can locate the missing heir. But Cantrip has waded in way over his head. Strange thing are happening on these mysterious, isolated isles. Something is going bump in the night -and pumping off members of the legal team, one by one. Soon Cantrip is telexing the gang at the home office for help. And it's up to amateur investigator Hilary Tamar (Oxford don turned super-sleuth) to get Cantrip back to the safety of his chambers - alive! An enjoyable murder mystery set in the Channel Islands, with lawyers and beneficiaries and rich people's money. My favorite bits are the telexes from Cantrip as he pursues a lead and the names of some of the characters, like Justice Heltapay. This is my first foray into the Hilary Tamar series, and I'm glad to find out, by happy accident, that I have another of Ms. Caudwell's books on the shelf. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
