This was absolutely insane. It’s my favourite book in the mistborn trilogy rn(although that might change to the final empire but I doubt it). I felt so much while reading this book. Mostly sadness but still. I also got practically all of my questions answered from the previous books and I love that everything gets explained so thoroughly- just yeah, all the feels. I couldn’t stop myself from reading those last 150 pages. Idk what I’m gonna read now… ( ![]() I'll give Sanderson this: his ideas of "hard fantasy", meaning magic has to have rules and limitations and be entirely consistent works for some very nice world building. But I've just never been big on epic fantasy. I think my feelings on the whole trilogy were summer up by Sanderson's introduction in which he reported that he was so proud of the epic story he was able to tell in "only" three 700 page books that would have taken someone else 10. And I just thought of all of the amazing stories I've read that have been single novels or 300-500 page book trilogies and had richer worlds, characters and settings. Sanderson needs to edit. He needs to realize that not every single perspective needs air time and tighter stories are better stories. Also, a world in which every city ruled by a non-noble degenerates into a Communist Russia stereotype and "all religions have a martyr figure and a good/bad duality" was a little much. I'm not big on the Christian manifest destiny, and I couldn't ignore it. Easily one of the best fantasy series Ive ever read. 3.5* After reading the first and second books of the Mistborn series, I expected another slog through 3/4 of the book before I began to enjoy myself. Not true at all with The Hero of Ages. I wish the first two had been this fast-paced and exciting – I’ll have a hard time recommending the series even though I loved the third book. The first two were just too slow for me. That said, I’ve already restarted the series - I’m looking forward to picking out all of the important bits that I missed the first time around.
Sanderson's conclusion to the epic that began with Mistborn and continued in Well of Ascension resonates with all the elements of classic heroic fantasy, along with unusual forms of magic and strong, believable characters. Sanderson pulls loose ends together, explains vague prophecies, and produces the Hero of Ages, and the Mistborn trilogy concludes satisfactorily. Sanderson's saga of consequences offers complex characters and a compelling plot, asking hard questions about loyalty, faith and responsibility. Indeholdt iHæderspriser
