This is a short and to the point sci-fi/fantasy, done in the style and tradition of Burroughs Mars books. The action is interesting, but other than the changing of names, this would be a Burroughs book. It follows the standard Moorcock formula - introduce a new hero, put him in a new setting, set him on the path to adventure and saving the day. At least unlike most of his Eternal Champion books, this one isn't quite so despondent. ( ) A knockoff of Edgar Rice Burrough's 'Princess of Mars' (itself a ripoff of 'Gulliver of Mars') but better written, mostly. It starts off good and is overall superior but Moorcock does seem to channel a little too much Burroughs at times almost stooping to his level. If you like Princess of Mars then i can't imagine you liking this as the similarities are too well marked. However i personally hated Princess of Mars so this was a far more pleasant read although still felt a little pointless. If I'd read this when I bought it in 1981-ish, I'd undoubtedly have rated it higher than my present 3🌟. As it is, 39 years later I enjoyed it for its type of story, and Moorcock's unabashed borrowing wholesale from Edgar Rice Burroughs' A Princess of Mars. There are few surprises, but I actually read it for that reason. Comfy slippers. Moorcock doesn't take himself too seriously, and I had a chuckle at the name of the entrance to the Caves of Darkness: the Gates of Gord Elpus! 😄 ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
