This play has been the center of controversy for some time because of the depiction of the Jews; this one was apparently a rewrite from after the Holocaust to try and bring it in line more with modern sensitivities. If that's so, I wouldn't like to see the original, as there is plenty of Jewish duplicity and deviousness on view here, with the Jews held solely liable for the death of Jesus, and a thoroughly ahistorical Pontius Pilate acting as a conscientious voice of reason. The writing itself is pretentious and over the top, with a healthy helping of King James English. I really doubt that thee and thou and ye were commonplace in first century Jerusalem, but they pepper these pages in a very self-conscious way. In spite of all the hype about the art of this piece, this is clearly not the work of a skilled playwright. It is amateurish and heavy handed. ( ) ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
