Liam’s father is dying of AIDS. Liam becomes suspicious when his mother tell him that a recent blood transfusion is to blame. He recalls seeing his father embracing another man at the beach. Liam becomes angry with his family for their dishonesty. He feels betrayed by his father’s homosexual affair. It isn’t until he spends time with his father that they begin to repair their relationship. Although Liam has acknowledged the truth he is not able to share it with others.

This is a very realistic story. This novel depicts the struggles of married, closeted gay men. This is an issue that is very relevant in today’s society and this novel is a great way to introduce students to the struggles of the families in this situation.
