How is a single dad supposed to navigate a new girlfriend into and out of his California king bed without his son or daughter noticing? For Trey Ellis, raising children while trying to find his way through the unfamiliar nuances of the contemporary dating scene as a single father has been a a sometimes nerve-racking challenge. A Don Juan with a heart of gold, Ellis tracks both his sexy life as a swinging single father--his dates have included a model, a French actress, and even an Italian contessa--and his nurturing and loving relationship with his two young children. The result isBedtime Stories, a charmingly poignant and hilarious story that shows what happens when the glamorous life of an LA singleton collides with the life of a less than glamorous dad who eats frozen dinners and changes dirty diapers.… (mere)

I only think you should read this book if -
1) You are a single woman (notice I didn't say a single mom as Ellis doesn't seem interested in any children but his own) interested in overly detailed bedroom scenes.
2) You have a high tolarance for and extreme lack of modesty
3) You think parenting SHOULD involve a lot of solo travel and the dating of extremely wealthy paramours.

Bottom line? It's a book about parenting and has a drunken turtle smoking on the cover. If you find that appropriate, then this book is probably for you. Otherwise there are better parenting memoirs. ( )

Well, where to begin?
Trey Ellis has written a memoir of his life as a "single dad" after his wife left him and his two perfect children. Put single dad in HUGE quotes, as not only has he always had a live in nanny, but a part time nanny who continues to come in the morning to make lunch for the children (even though, he admits, he could make their own lunch....it is for "consistency.") Plus, he and his ex split the child care duties. Sounds not too tough to me.
OK - what else, well, Mr Ellis tells us OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER again:
-he is an exceedingly brilliant African American man
-he went to Phillips and Andover and Stanford
-he is a brilliant and award winning novelist
-he may be described by his friends as "handsome"
-his children are perfect and there has never been more perfect children ever
-his mother killed herself
-his father died
-he is a brilliant novelist
-we are in the bedroom evey time he makes love -- can I say TMI???
-he meets beautiful model/actress women all the time and fall madly in love with them (wedding bells rang twice in the first 250 pages)
-Oh, did I mention how modest he is? ( )
