The Story of Ferdinand af Munro Leaf (1936)

The Right to Be Lazy af Paul Lafargue (lquilter)
lquilter: If you like "The Right To Be Lazy", perhaps you would enjoy reading to your children (and for yourself), "The Story of Ferdinand", by Munro Leaf -- a children's picture book about a bull who doesn't want to fight, but just wants to sit under a tree and enjoy nature. If you liked reading Ferdinand to your kids, maybe you'd also like spending some time with the classic pro-relaxation theoretical work of Lafargue, who argues that relaxation and creativity, not work, are the true engines of human development. Down with the corporate-capitalist-entertainment complex! Up with the enjoyment of life, bread, and roses!… (mere)

A lovely story, beautifully illustrated, about a person who eschews violence in spite of both culture and social pressure, and how gentleness might be the very best thing of all. ( )

People, animals, and things are often judged by how they look or who they are. This happens to Ferdinand who doesn't like to play with the other bulls. He enjoys the simple things in life as he grows up. One day there was a mix up with a bee. When he ended up in a bull-fight, he was quite a disappointment. Ferdinand kept true to himself and still enjoys the simple things in life. ( )

THE STORY OF FERDINAND is my choice for the best kid's book ever!

It has all the elements of Love and Good and Kindness that we all need.

Perfectly illustrated. ( )

Shows no matter who you are or what you look like you can do and be anything you want.

Ferdinand is a bull meant to be ferocious and fight, but all he wants to do is relax and smell his favorite flowers. No one understands Ferdinand. When he is taken away to start bullfighting, he stands his ground and refuses. This book is a classic and shows that being yourself and different is okay. Despite being judged and seen as different from others like him Ferdinand refuses to change because he is who he is. ( )
