I may have learned about this event in history, but I felt like it was the first time I ever heard about it. Reading from a history book can be overwhelming, but reading a book on one topic with pictures, more in a story format and not so much about facts seems so much more interesting. It really hit home talking about what families in those states went through and how it affected their homes and lives.
This is great for history because it was right before the Great Depression. But it also gives one side to the story, the students could write about why the people in California treated them so harsh and look at things from the point of view of someone living in California. ( )
