This is probably the most useable mentor text Laurie Halse Anderson has ever written in my opinion. It's great for figurative language and the story is one of an unlikely hero that kids will easily relate to. I love stories about an under-appreciated character proving his self-worth despite tremendous odds. Characters like that are so inspiring. Little Benny Antonelli is just the sort of character that makes me want to cheer, and I'm sure kids would feel the same way about him. ( )

This was a funny story. Benny is a tiny boy who gets picked on all the time. He feel left out. Once, there is a block party and everyone has to climb a pole and try to reach a piece of cheese that sits on the top. No one is successful at it. Benny decides he wants to give it a try and everyone in the neighborhood laughs at him. Well, he is successful at reaching the cheese, After that moment everyone begins to like him. ( )

Great story of Little Benny, who was just that, smaller than anybody. Everyone teased him and took advantage of him...until he did something remarkable.
