Jennie Jerome, the daughter of New York Times owner/Wall Street speculator Leonard Jerome, marries Lord Randolph Churchill, whores around with Edward VII and his set, and givers birth to Winston Churchill A biography of Jennie Jerome Churchill, wife of Lord Randolph Churchill and mother of Winston Churchill, up to the time of her husband's death. A thoroughly researched background of her early life and description of the evolution of Jennie after her marriage to Randolph into a figure of political shrewdness and social prominence. With his access to family papers, the author is able to bring to light and add dimension to all of the colorful figures in the Jerome-Churchill families. It is noteworthy how their son, Winston, managed to achieve such great success in both his political and personal life after having been raised by parents who essentially wasted so much of their talents and money on frivolous things and showed so little interest in the greatest treasure they had, their son. Portions are slow reading, but the book gives a good understanding of the genetic and environmental components that contributed to the greatness of Winston Churchill. 1490 Jennie: The Life of Lady Randolph Churchill The Romantic Years 1854-1895, by Ralph G. Martin (read 2 July 1978) I don't seem to have done a post-reading note on this book, but I remember I did not like it, and since I did not appreciate the author's way of doing biography, I never read the second volume of the biography of Winston Churchill's mother, Jennie Jerome. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
