The Sepoy Mutiny by V.A. Stuart is the second book in the adventures of Captain Alexander Sheridan. In 1857 Sheridan is serving in India. He is called to Lucknow and must leave his wife in Cawnpore even though the threat of an uprising is in the air. He feels that he has seen to the safety of his pregnant wife by having made arrangements for her to go to Calcutta. As the threatened uprising comes about, he gets caught up in the various mutinies in Meerut and New Delhi, never knowing that his wife was trapped in Cawnpore due to the early birth of his son. He finally finds out where she is and makes it back into Cawnpore just as the siege is starting.

This was a fairly quick read with lots of action and I liked it well enough. My only problem with the story was the abrupt, cliff-hanging ending. I do have the next book, but with it’s title of Massacre At Cawnpore, I suspect there will be no happy ending. ( )

Good entry in an excellent series. As always she gets the history right and uses it support the further adventures of Alexander Sheridan, this time; the initial mutiny. ( )
