( ![]() Enjoy this series, but this one made me uncomfortable with what seemed like gleefully mean descriptions of the woman and her eating. Hamish Macbeth, highland police constable, is once again up to his ears in murder. Will Hamish find the murderer? Of course. Will he find true love? Are you kidding? M. C. Beaton creates lovable, fallible characters and the formulaic nature of her plots is part of their charm. As long as you don't try to read a steady diet of them, they are delightful. Another delightful outing (if when expecting a murder this can be the case) to the Scottish Highlands with Hamish Macbeth and the village of Lochdubh. These are lovely visits to this village and the characters we find inhabiting each book; although M C Beaton does have a habit of creating a horrible character in these books that everyone wants to kill. Then it is left to Hamish to try and unearth the murderer which he does in a very quiet manner much to the chagrin of Detective Inspector Blair. You know what to expect from these books but they are a good read as a result of this. "There's not a cloud in Constable Hamish Macbeth's sky ... "Just plenty of warm sunshine and not quite enough of beautiful Priscilla Halburton-Smythe. "But as eight hopeful members of the Checkmate Singles Club converge on Tommel Castle Hotel for a week of serious matchmaking, the clouds roll in. The four couples, carefully matched by dating director Maria Worth, immediately dislike each other. The arrival of Maria's gross, greedy partner, Peta, kills the last vestige of romance. "And as love goes out the sindow, murder comes in the door. Peta soon slurps up her last meal, and Hamish is left with a falling puzzle: Who shared the fateful outing that left Peta dead with a big red apple in her mouth? Surely not one of those singles ..." ~~back cover And yet another variation on the theme of the English country house mystery. What an inventive author! And yet another romp through the unexpected psyches of human beings -- this particular lot are veterans of looking for love in all the wrong places, and are the worse for wear because of that. flag ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
