Spring arrives in Alaska and spring fever is affecting the people and wildlife. Kate is chased by a bear and then her homestead is trashed when a 747 engine falls on it. In the end though, little happens, but Kate does solve the mystery of two seemingly unrelated deaths and a single perpetrator. The best part was Kate driving around wildly in a Cat tractor settling a Hadley-McCoy type dispute and repairing a destroyed road. The BreakUp is insane ! Seriously this state goes nuts on speed during breakup in this book. Kate, she is one strong woman I would have just gotten in my truck and driven south. You think you have difficulties, LOL wait till you read about her days. Her story continues, and I've already ordered book #8 I loved this one most so far it hit all my "Woot Woot Love It" buttons and left me wanting to reread it just to experience it again. Exciting. Familiar characters. Comic relief by Alaska spring thaw. Im reading the Kate Shugak series from start to finish; this was the most intriguing--each story enlightens Shugak's Native American roots, along with the difficulty tribal life faces. In the beginning, Kate faces a really bad day and I'm LMAOROF. This isn't really a chick-book...honest! It's a murder mystery wrapped in Alaska lore and executed by an off-the-grid Alaskan woman. When winter's done, but spring has not yet fully sprung, much of Alaska turns to slush. Locally, it's called "breakup," and it's a...messy time of year. It's certainly messy for Kate Shugak; between doing her taxes, being chased by grizzlies, and getting shot at by feuding families, she has to cope with an NTSB investigation that hits very close to home. Then, of course, there's the body in the woods. And up at the old mining town. And...being Kate Shugak, somehow she can't leave well enough alone, and begins to tease apart a well-planned and surprising crime. No library descriptions found. |

The first 2/3 of this book was absolutely hilarious to the point where I didn't really care about the mystery element. ( )
