This book introduces many essential concepts such as having parents away from home. It will be an excellent book for children who have military family. This book also changes the point of view such as, man is usually a pilot. This book also teaches how Jenny cares for his mom by hoping that she will have a safe trip back home. Jenny stated that her mom might encounter the war and she might not return to home safely. This book can relate to the children who are going through some degree of fear or anxiety. This book illustrated the beautiful visual of nature to connect child’s emotional status, for example, the cloudy grey skies. I can read this book with the 2nd grade. Although a bit dated [with a reference to the Gulf War three years ago], the heart of the story is the relationship between mother and daughter, the difficulties of military parents having to be away from their families, and the positive look at a woman doing an important job. This is a book for parents to read with their children and to reassure them that nothing will take the child’s place in the parent’s heart.
Highly recommended. ( )
