"Bee-bim-bop" is the lovely bouncing refrain in this story about preparing a favorite family dish.

"Rice goes in the middle
Egg goes right on top
MIX IT!
MIX LIKE CRAZY!
Time for BEE-BIM-BOP!" ( )

diverse picture book (food, cooking; preschool ages 2 and up)
* Features diverse characters: This is a fun, action-packed book about cooking a family meal, which incidentally stars a Korean family (2 kids, mom and dad, and grandma) making a traditional Korean dish--mom does the cooking of the title dish with help from big sis. Includes recipe at the end as well as a note explaining more about the dish (including a photo of the author with her niece and nephew making rice).
* Would work for preschool storytime, and possibly older toddlers who like to sit through stories--the text rhymes and has a quick-moving rhythm to it that repeats and becomes familiar and comforting as the story progresses. There is also some very nice, descriptive vocabulary included, making it great for preschoolers. ( )

This is a great story for young readers. This story is about a young girl who loves to prepare the dish Bee-Bim Bop and we can see how it is important to her culture. This story is told through the use of many rhymes and it flows together very nice. The way it flowed added to the theme of the story and it was overall a fun and interesting read. I would use this book with younger students to introduce the idea of different cultures and to get them thinking about their own culture. ( )

This story would be great to introduce children to rhymes, food, and the Korean culture. The story follows a young Korean girl who expresses her excitement to prepare and eat Bee-Bim Bop which is a traditional Korean rice bowl. It's an easy read and great story depiction of cooking, following a sequential recipe and diverse cultures and I would use this book in the classroom to do that. ( )
