This work is Emil Schürer's Geschichte des judischen Volks im Zeitalter Jesu Christi, which was translated into English as A History of the Jewish People in the Time of Jesus Christ (1885-1891).

Schürer's original work should be distinguished from two significantly different derived works:

An English edition revised by Geza Vermes, Fergus Millar and Matthew Black was published as The History of the Jewish People in the Age of Jesus Christ (1973-1987).

A History of the Jewish People in the Time of Jesus (1961) is an abridged version of only part of the earlier English edition.

Please do not combine this work with either of the later versions.
