A collection of writings which first appeared in The Masses, a radical magazine which was published from 1911-1917. A great view in to socialist thinking at the beginning of the 20th century. You have to like this kind of thing. I do. ( ) This is a choice selection of the legendary leftist magazine The Masses, which was finally suppressed by the U.S. Post Office in 1917 ("Don't you know there's a WAR goin' on?!"). With writers such as Sherwood Anderson, Jack London, Emma Goldman, Louis Untermeyer, Floyd Dell, Upton Sinclair, John Reed and Carl Sandburg, Echoes of Revolt is a must-have for anyone with more than a modicum of interest in the period; although, as Newsweek's review noted, "The artwork alone is worth the price of admission" -- particularly Art Young's artwork -- and it's pretty amazing (not to mention depressing...) how relevant many of the editorial cartoons reprinted here are today, particularly Young's "The Freedom of the Press" (December 1912; p. 34). ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
A glorious collection of fiction, art, poetry, and protest from The Masses, the best radical magazine ever. No library descriptions found. |
