This collection of six short stories is similar to the author’s best known novel, A Separate Peace. Two of them take place at the same private school, and two others take place in small towns in the eastern U.S. around the same time period. The stories are all filled with nostalgia for the time between the world wars.

The stories were all okay, but they weren’t great like A Separate Peace. I think the problem is that Knowles just didn’t have enough time to fully develop his characters and plots. The time commitment needed to read this collection is very small, so I don’t regret reading it. ( )

A collection of six short stories, two of which are set in the Devon world of "A Separate Peace". The stories are largely worth reading, with "Summer Street", about a boy running from home, perhaps my favorite - although "Phineas" is redundant to one who has read "A Separate Peace". Knowles is not a great writer as one might think from the critical and popular acclaim he has had, but he is quite a good one. ( )
