This book is about two workers who are on their way to work at a farm in California. They are complete opposites and one of them is fully dependent on the other which becomes clear on their journey to the farm. As they continue on their journey, they both face difficulties that keep the reader engaged and eager to read more. I highly recommend this book for students who enjoy action and mystery for what could come next. Even though this novel is pretty depressng it's actually quite a good read. Each of the characters is at once unique, yet also an example of a well known stereotype, and the plot of the story is much the same. We know almost from the outset that George and Lennie will run into trouble with their new job and all will end in death/sadness, but Steinbeck's carefully crafted language ensures that we are compelled to read their tale from start to finish. Re-reading this book has improved my impression of it. A tragedy of how out of reach the American Dream is for so many people. Steinbeck has a slim, well-structured novel that shows the desperation of the time and how unforgiving society can be to any people who are different and therefore deemed lesser. Yeah yeah I know it is a classic and all, and I did enjoy reading about the situation of the times and such, but I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if the novella had more details in it. I feel like decisions at the end were a little rash, though they had reason for them. I also felt like the foreshadowing was more of "here let me spoil the end for you halfway through the book and call it foreshadowing." ....
