A little rolie polie robot living on a little round planet in the sky, Rolie Polie Olie passes an enjoyable day with his loving family in this rhyming picture-book from author/artist William Joyce. Bouncing out of bed in the morning and brushing his teeth while his head recharges, Olie has all sorts of fun with his Momma, Dad, little sister Zowie, and dog Spot. When bedtime comes, Olie makes a nuisance of himself, but not so much that his family won't forgive him...

Originally published in 1999, and recently reprinted in this 2017 edition, Rolie Polie Olie launched an extensive series of picture-books, board-books and other titles devoted to the adventures of the eponymous robot hero. There is also a television series based on this character and his family, I believe - a series which netted Joyce an Emmy Award. Although I do think the combination of rollicking rhyme and bright artwork will please many child readers, I'm not sure I enjoyed this one as much as some of Joyce's other picture-books, such as The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore or The Guardians of Childhood titles. Still, this one does have appeal, especially to children who like robots, and it is to them that I recommend it. ( )

This book introduces you to Rolie Polie Olie and his family. They come from a world far away. Rolie Polie Olie is just like any other typical boy, he wakes up in the morning, brushes his teeth, recharges his battery, and has breakfast with his family. They play and also have to do their chores around the house. This is a story that children can relate well to. It follows the typical routine of a young child such as family, chores, and playing games. ( )

a Rolie Polie Olie family live up on a far away planet. They work together as a family to get their household chores done so they could have some fun. Once the chores are done, they spend the rest of the day playing with one another until they are so tired it is time to go to bed.

Cute, clever, vibrant - but imo ultimately unsatisfying. I'm not surprised tots love it, but I sure would get sick of reading it to them every night.

A catalog of the day's activities that resembles the dream day of many a child, a little fussy & naughty bit at bedtime, and a happy reconciliation. I did check out more of the series from the library; I'll read on to see if they get richer. ( )
