For courses in Differential Equations and Linear Algebra. Acclaimed authors Edwards and Penney combine core topics in elementary differential equations with those concepts and methods of elementary linear algebra needed for a contemporary combined introduction to differential equations and linear algebra. Known for its real-world applications and its blend of algebraic and geometric approaches, this text discusses mathematical modeling of real-world phenomena, with a fresh new computational and qualitative flavor evident throughout in figures, examples, problems, and applications. In the 3rd Edition, new graphics and narrative have been added as needed--yet the proven chapter and section structure remains unchanged, so that class notes and syllabi will not require revision for the new edition. Differential equations have a wide variety of uses, ranging from mathematics, to science, from physics to biology, and even economics. If you're not afraid to get your math elbows a little dirty, you can harness the power of differential equations to solve a lot of the problems you may face in your life, and what better place to learn DEs than with this book, complete with exercises to further assist the learning process. It is helpful to have an understanding of calculus before venturing into this, though. But, calculus, hey, you learned that in early college or late high school, so it should be a breeze to get back into, right? ( )
