I really enjoyed this book. I thought Robyn Montana Turner wrote about Frida's complex, creative, and unique life in style that younger readers could appreciate without watering down the text. For instance, she still discussed Frida and Diego's marriage, but she didn't use adult details. Also, I believe this book gave an excellent overview of Frida's life from her birth in a small Mexican town to her well deserved title of a great and influential artist. For instance, Turner even provided an analysis of one Frida's satircal paintings of New York City. In other words, I would highly recommend this book for any young student who wants to further their interest in art. ( )

While Robyn Montana Turner's "Frida Kahlo" stayed true to the facts of Frida's life, I felt the story to be a bit lacking. Frida Kahlo led a fascinating life, and while I do love her life story, this book did not capture my attention like I expected it to. I do, however, appreciate the fact that the author has made it her priority to write biographies about women who have influenced art, science, government, business, etc. The jacket of the book notes that at the time of publication, there were few nonfiction children's books about the lives of these influential women; I applaud Robyn Montana Turner's attempt to remedy this. Robyn Montanan Turner does a wonderful job of sharing the interesting life of this beautiful Mexican artist. She tells of Frida's life from birth to death and shares her struggles and resilience. I enjoyed the actual art of the artist displayed in the book and the explanations of the emotions of the artist. Observing Kahlo's art allowed me to truly gain an appreciation for her and her work

The book provides plenty of information about the artist. It is a little lengthy, but I would definitely use this piece of literature for a biography research project with my students. Students would be able to learn about the artist and observe the artist's work all in one source. My only issue with this biography is the author does not have a bibliography or sources page. ( )

This book steps into the world of the famous female artist, Frida Kahlo. The book talks about her history and her family. Printed on the pages are pictures of some of her famous art pieces. She drew beautiful portraits of herself and family members.

This would be great to read with a class if I am teaching about art history. Frida Kahlo is an important woman in history to teach. This would also be good to read if the class is doing a project on different people throughout history. ( )

This biography covers the early and late life of Frida Kahlo. She endured much pain due to her polio and car accident, but that did not stop her from pursuing her passions. Her art was appreciated more worldwide after her death. At the early stage, Frida Kahlo painted a lot of self potraits of her family and herself. As a class activity, students would paint self portaits of any person of their choice. They would use warm colors, like Kahlo. As a writing assingment, they would write a short paragraph explaining their self potrait. ( )
