In Pam Houston's best-selling story collection, we meet smart women who are looking for the love of a good man, and men who are wild and hard to pin down. Our heroines are part daredevil, part philosopher, all acute observers of the nuances of modern romance. Cowboys Are My Weakness is a shrewd and intoxicating look at men and women--together and apart.… (mere)

I really liked this collection of short stories. Houston's writing was excellent. Her characters were very interesting and I just sort of liked them and really understood their thoughts and feelings. ( )

Whoever pushed this cover art is an asshole. These stories aren't smut or fluff -- they're visceral, which is so much better. Well, once you move past the dog chained out in the cold in the first one. ( )

reread, still great ( )

If I read these years back, I forgot. If I read these and forgot, maybe early-stage Alzheimer's is a possibility, because these stories are - each one of them - truly unforgettable. Houston captures the vagaries of modern womens' hearts perfectly. Sorry I'm not being more specific in my praise. Just go read these, please. ( )

overall i was disappointed with this book and her characters; i found it to be pretty repetitive. it's possible that waltzing the cat was equally unvaried, but if it was, the writing carried that book through in a way she doesn't manage as well in this one. ( )
