What do you do when you are a Christian in Soviet controlled Romania? What do you do when the government has made it clear that any message which might remove the state from the highest position of authority will result in your arrest? What you do is: remain obedient and preach the gospel. This is is exactly what Richard Wurmbrand and his wife Sabina did. The Pastor's Wife is a first hand account of life under communist control and within communist labor camps. The book is filled with details of horrific conditions and treatment as well as Sabina's continued dedication to proclaim her faith in the One True God. In addition to the recounting of specific incidents, Sabina documents a number of truths she learned during these trials. In one encounter, where she recalls sharing the gospel with a prostitute, who then declares her unworthiness and stained soul, Mrs. Wurmbrand declares, “You’re not a prostitute; you’re a prisoner, and nobody is a prostitute, or a cook, or even a carpenter all the time. Everyone is himself. The things you do are only part of your being. They can change at any time.” In another exchange, Mrs. Wurmbrand is called before a camp director who screams at her that all discussion of God must stop or she will face the harshest consequences. When Mrs. Wurmbrand smiles at this stern warning the surprised camp director asks, "what are you smiling for?" Mrs. Wurmbrand states, "Because when I look into your eyes, I see my self, before God saved me." Just a great reminder of what we used to be and how any person can change when they are reborn in Christ. The Pastor's Wife is a gripping, encouraging true tale of persecution and endurance. ( )
