A father re mained adviser to his son or daughter, but generally he did not have a great deal to do with their daily lives. The mother's brother became friend, teacher, and all-around big brother. Love of battle was characteristic of most Indians. To them the battle ground proved manhood and courage. Their code of honor was rigid, though often misunderstood by us.
