I gave this book a 5/5 because of how much information and images are in the book. Each page is filled with facts and characteristics of lightning. Along with the words on one side, is a different image of a lightning bolt on each page. This gives the read a variety of different kinds of lightning to look at and also shows that every lightning bolt is different. In addition, not only does this book have great information, but it also has interesting and different stories about lightning that most adults haven't even heard of before. I think it gives a great representation of lightning and really shows every quality of it. ( )

I enjoyed this book. I really enjoy Seymour Simon as an author due to his stylistic ability to really capture the reader, even if he is writing about a rather boring topic. One of the things I like about this book is how its written. It is written in 2nd person, as if Simon is speaking right to the reader, This is beneficial as it is like he is teaching you directly instead of just telling about lightning. For example, he relates to the reader when he says" You may have heard of different types of lightning, but these are just different names that describe when lightning come or how it looks." He then goes into detail about these types, either confirming what the reader already knows or adding new information. Either way, its a clever way to write. Another thing I like about this book are the pictures. They go well with the story and are quite vivid. The pictures are real photographs as lightning is striking, blown up to show detail in the formation. It is astounding. The main idea of this book is to educate about lightning. ( )

This is a good informative book for grades 1 through 5. Striking cover automatically engages readers right into the book without evening opening. Following the book begins opening as a mystery as the author dives into this subject. The photographs through out the story help visualize this common phenomenon. The book also is very detailed even down to describing the three types of lightning. The book uses a lot of analogies to keep children drawn in. The book includes different topics, as well as subtopics with short sentences that does not become strenuous for children. "If you are in water, get out as soon as possible." The purpose behind this book is for it to be used as a resource for those who are not as equipped in handling this situation in real life or have little knowledge at all about it. ( )

Seymour Simon, once again, does not disappoint! His photography is captivating! The text is fascinating and full of facts that children will marvel over. Children are so naturally curious about science, and lightning is not something that they get to see often where we live. Thunder and lightning are so mysterious to young learners. Simon gives us a closer look and explains the concept perfectly. ( )

This book about lightning goes into details about how sounds, looks as well as experiments that have been done with lightning. The pictures help to guide the reader as they learn about lightning and all its different forms.
