Three Billy-Goats Gruff is a Norwegian Folktale about wittiness and bravery. I enjoyed this book because I believe it takes courage to stand up to your enemies. This book is age appropriate for grades PreK-2.

This book is appropriate for K-1st grade students. This book tells the story of three goats who want to pass over a bridge but are stopped by a troll. The first goat is small and tells the troll to wait for a larger goat. The second goat says the same thing. The third, larger goat knocks the troll down and all three goats can graze happily across the bridge. This book shows how working together to trick the troll keeps all three goats alive.

Summary:

A story about 3 brother goats who want to cross a bridge to get to some more grass. The first brother starts walking across and a troll blocks his path. The goat tells the troll that the next goat is bigger than he is, so the troll lets him pass. The second goat starts across the bridge and the troll stops him. The second goat tells the troll that the third goat is the biggest and juiciest, so the troll lets him pass. The third goat starts across the bridge and the troll stops him. The goat kicks him and crosses to the other side.

Personal:

I grew up with this story because of the moral surrounding it. The troll was being a bully to the three goats, so he got a rude awakening when the third billy goat kicked him off the bridge.

Classroom:

I would have the students write about a time they were bullied, or when they were being the bully to others. The student needs to write what he/she felt after being the bully/being bullied.

We would introduce manners into the classroom. If you behave nicely, then others will like you more. ( )
