Mildly entertaining but definitely not a favorite. ( )

Nothing drives a family crazy faster than an old black fly on a hot summer day, especially when the family's a little crazy already. And this fly is as bad as they come. He knows every low-down trick in the book--and won't rest until he's gone through them all. He ate on the crustof the Apple pie.He bothered the Babyand made her cry.Shoo fly!Shoo fly!Shooo. -- www.thriftbooks.com

The Old Black Fly is about fly that goes around a house causing trouble and annoying a family. I liked this book because it repeated the rhyming phrase "shoo fly shoo" and had text that was a different color and different font size. I thought the book was very engaging and enjoyed the pictures. ( )

Old Black Fly is a fun way of looking at the alphabet telling the story of a fly in a very busy home. He experiences being shood around the house while landing on food, people, plants, and other artifacts in the house. In the classroom, students can identify rhyming words and alliteration thought the book.

The art work is nice as the paint appears to splattered on giving a very chaotic look that could easily be associated with a fly. There is also poetry involved as the left page rhymes with the right page verse.
