Initially, I thought this would be another time-travel book. The title "Running out of Time" gave me the notion of either traveling around in the Time Hollows or whatever they're called in The Missing series.

It was not that at all. That was a pleasant surprise. The title is meant in its normal way- if the main character doesn't hurry, she might fail in her task.

Rather than time travel, the main premise is that of a girl whose life is not, and never has been, what she thought it was. She needs to leave the only life she's ever known and enter a shocking new world, risking all she has to rescue the society she knows and loves. ( )

This is an action backed and engaging book for 3rd-5th graders. A prominent theme is the dangers of modern technology but the tech is outdated because it was written in the late 90’s. But I kind of like this as offering kids a view of both the 90’s and 1800’s. Would have this in my classroom library! ( )

Love the concept, but there are so many more plot holes than I remember. Also why the fuck did they teach those kids old timey racism?? ( )

Incredible, suspense, a sense of potential historical and social implications. ( )

I read this because my 10 year old son told me I should. It was a good, fast-paced story. ( )

The light woke Jessie, though it was just a glimmer downstairs. She eased out of bed, being careful not to disturb her sister Hannah.
