I had mixed feelings about this book after reading it. I liked the book because it allows the reader to imagine, but I don't like this book because it's hard to find the message it's trying to convey. The language in the book is clear and simple which allows the reader to finish the book in a paced time. The writing is paced well throughout the book hard to find what the author is conveying. The characters in the story which is Cosmo, his sister, and the robot. The characters are believable and feels as the story is real although its in Mars. As well, the characters in the story are an African American family this portrays multicultural ethnicity in science fiction books. The point of view in this book was in first person the characters had dialogue and tried to find a solution to the evil robot. The illustrations are not too eye catching. I think the illustrations are not very modern to present of 2020 and it might not be eye catching for younger students. Overall, the book pushes readers to think of a solution and to imagine a world outside of earth. I think this book is a very family orientated book and students would enjoy the fantasy out of this world! ( )

This book is the story of a creative and intelligent young boy, Cosmo, who lives with his family on Mars. His best friend is a robot but the robot turns bad and tries to destroy them, so they send him away to the junkyard. Later on Cosmo and his sister go to the junkyard as a chore and they find the robot, Cosmo, and he tries to attack his sister. Cosmo then fixes the robot and Rex, the robot, is his friend again.

Cosmo's parents then give him a utility belt with many special tools. When Jewel is being chased by evil Rex, Cosmo is able to fix him so that he becomes good again. ( )

Cosmo has a best friend named Rex who is a robot, but Rex bumps his head and has to go to the asteroid dump. His parents give him a super solar system utility belt to make up for his loss. Cosmo and his sister, Jewel, never got along very well and always argued over something. One day they are out and Jewel goes somewhere else and is gone for a long time. Using his utility belt, Cosmo sees that she is in trouble and Rex is chasing Jewel. He breaks, then Cosmo puts him back together and they are best friends again. ( )
