Clear and easy for a child to follow.

This book is about light! It talks about what light is, and different illusions lights can create. It talks about what shadows are, how mirrors work and what a rainbow is. I enjoyed reading this book because I learned some things myself. I didn't know mirrors worked because the light from us is reflecting off of the mirror. I also liked how in the back of the book it shows little experiments that children can do with light. I might use this book in a class to teach a lesson on rainbows and use a modified version of the make your own rainbow experiment to do with the kids! ( )

I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked this book. First, I liked that many of the pages included fun facts. For example, the page that explain light offers the fun fact, "Light comes from the sun. Other natural light is made by lightning, fireflies, and the northern lights that shine in the Arctic." I liked the fun facts because they kept me interested and wanted to to learn more about the topic. I also liked how the author added one "not-so-fun-fact". For example, when talking about infrared and ultraviolet light from rainbows, the not-so-fun-fact was that, "Ultraviolet light from the sun can burn your skin." This was interesting because the author was providing the reader a negative piece of information, which is obvious through the footnote. Second, I liked the "Out-of-sight Experiments" that are integrated at the end of the book. I liked the experiments because it supplies readers with instructions for creating their own science experiments that relate to the topics in the book. The main idea of this book is to inform young readers of light, shadows, mirrors, and rainbows in a light and enjoyable fashion. ( )
