Hattie Rabbit has two stories in this book, in the first she meets her friends' moms (Little Elephant, Little Giraffe, etc.) and wishes her mother shared some of their traits until she realizes she loves her mother just the way she is. Awwwwwww. I know right? But I remember liking this when I was learning to read and enjoying the simple blue and brown toned illustrations.
The second story involves Hattie Rabbit setting up a booth and tricking her friends into buying silly or useless things (a Sand Witch instead of a sandwich being a highlight). She ends up with plenty of money (25 cents, GOLLY!) but no friends. So she goes to the sweet shop and buys a bag of peanut brittle and gives it all to her friends who forgive her. Awwwwwww.
A simple little book, it ain't literature, but it's a pleasant trip down memory lane and, as the title says, a good start for a learning reader. ( )
