This is a futuristic dystopian romance. This follows the journey of the FMC, Faye, traveling to the City and navigating her new life where she is to search for her soulmate. Overall, this book was okay. It did not blow me out of the water but I can see great potential for future books in the series as I feel that it could go in so many directions. The ending leaves on a cliffhanger that makes you want to know what happens next. I am torn with the love interest but ultimatley I am team Eryx.

If I'm being totally honest, I wanted to DNF this book about 5 times. I really love the idea of this story but I feel like the execution was lacking. For about the first third of the book, it was dragging. I felt like it could have been summed up to just one or two chapters. The second third of the book was more interesting but not entirely exciting. The last third of the book was even more interesting and a little more exciting.

The character building was okay. I didn't feel much of a connection with them and everything as far as feelings go was either overdramatized or not elaborated enough. The writing was somewhat of a struggle to follow at times. I think a lot more world-building is needed. I will most likely still continue the series as I want to know what happens and I have many questions that need answers.

Tropes:
Forbidden love
Fated Mates
Love triangle
Insta-love

Below are my SPOILER thoughts and reactions:
[
23%: Her dad is dead? Oh yep. I bet shes not their kid. Shes constantly going back and forth between past and present tense. Took me while to figure out that this wasn't a dream or a memory. Spends a lot of time in her repetitive thoughts. I'm skipping paragraphs. They're unnecessary. Her dreams are visions of some kind maybe?
66%: First 80 pages were brutal and honestly unnecessary. But it's getting better. She is so dramatic. And whiny. This book is not for me. So they aren't fated? I'm guessing that Kace is one of the rulers kids or something. And once she finds out she'll feel betrayed. 180 pages in and it finally gets interesting. She lives Kace but she just found her soulmate, Eryx. This is good shit right here. Why can't the whole book be like this? Okay, I'm super torn between Kace and Eryx. They're both super hot. Kace is sweet love and lust. But Eryx is soul deep love. Right now I'm leaning more towards Eryx. It's less complicated that way. And she was with Kace for a whole ass month. Not years. She is so immature. Poor Eryx... and honestly poor Kace. I feel so bad for both of them.
100%: I knew she wasn't they're kid. I'm still team Eryx. Dammit she slept with Kace. While drunk. I mean I know they love each other but they're so impulsive. Um... okay. That was... quite the ending. The last chapter pretty much stated that she was in a dream from the beginning of the book. So everything that happened, didn't happen. I SUFFERED THROUGH ALL THAT AND IT WASN'T EVEN REAL! ( )
